Wood heating: it’s time to stock up on pellets for the winter, prices are low

The price of a pallet of heating pellets has almost halved in a year, to around 4 euros.

Good news for homes heated by wood stoves. In fact, the price of a 15-kilogram bag of these granules or pellets has almost halved in a year, even reaching 4 euros. Remember that you had to pay 15 euros in 2022 for the same bag, when stocks were at their lowest.

Pellets remain the cheapest energy source among the five main sources (electricity, gas, fuel oil, wood, district heating), according to the price index published by the Statistical Service of the Ministry responsible for the ecological transition (SOeS).

Now is the time to stock up for winter, and suppliers are seeing an increase in demand.

“We have customers who buy several pallets at a time,” Stéphane Rosa, a firewood seller, told BFMTV, as did Hervé Blanchard, who decided to buy a tonne of these pellets to get through the winter: “It will last us until March,” our reporter said.

Sharp increase in sales of wood stoves

The drop in prices for this increasingly popular fuel is explained by an increase in stocks caused by lower demand last winter due to its mildness.

In addition, several companies have developed a liquidation strategy that is advantageous for consumers, the specialist site explains. WoodReduced.

Manufacturers are better able to adapt their production to demand: “We imagine that we will have less shortages of pellets,” estimates Stéphane Rosa, while sales of pellet stoves have increased by 36% this year, according to professionals.
