The CEO of Amazon France, Frédéric Duval, declared on Monday that the company would “pay” the exceptional contribution intended for large companies if it were voted, but warned of the loss of fiscal attractiveness that this would represent for France. “Yes, we will pay – if it is decided – the tax, we are a legalistic company, we apply the law,” Frédéric Duval told RTL on Monday. The head of Amazon France, however, declined to comment on the advantages of such a system.
24,000 jobs in France
Asked about the possible sustainability of this exceptional contribution, Frédéric Duval reiterated that it is necessary “that the attractiveness of France (remains) important.” Regarding what such a contribution would represent financially, he said that “he had not looked.” Frédéric Duval indicated that the American online sales giant paid in France “a little more than 500 million euros in taxes” for “about 10 billion in turnover.” Amazon France employs 24,000 people in France.
The deputies of the Finance Commission validated on Friday the temporary increase in taxes on large companies desired by the Government, an “exceptional contribution to the profits of large companies” that must be introduced over two years.
