Budget 2025: MEPs eliminate the freeze on retirement pensions in committee

The Social Affairs Commission of the National Assembly broadly rejected this Friday the six-month postponement, from January to July, of the revaluation of retirement pensions, during the examination of the Social Security budget.

New snub of 4,000 million euros for the Government, although the vote must still be confirmed starting Monday in the chamber, where the deputies will start from the Government’s initial version.

The measure, one of the main sources of savings in his bill, was rejected by the majority of the deputies present in the commission, from the left to the National Group, passing through the right and the Macronists, who, however, They support the executive.

“Easy solution”

Only one Horizons elected official opposed the removal of this key article, while Modem abstained. By consensus, the issue of pensions brought together the environmentalist Sandrine Rousseau and the republican Thibault Bazin, who in unison denounced “a deeply unjust measure.”

RN Thomas Ménage, for his part, criticized the “easy solution” of a “disguised tax on retirees”, at the risk of “breaking trust” in the State. The macronist Didier Le Gac (EPR) simply recalled that his party “had committed during the legislative campaign not to organize a pension freeze.”
