Businessman Elon Musk plans to lay off up to half of the social network Twitter’s 7,500 employees, according to people linked to the digital company’s purchase, as part of the planned cost-cutting effort, the Financial Times (FT) reported today. .
As part of those plans, the billionaire plans to cut about 3,700 jobs from the digital company acquired for $44 billion, according to two people familiar with the project, although the exact number is subject to change.
According to the British newspaper, Musk also plans to demand face-to-face work in offices from Monday, which would reverse Twitter’s current policy, allowing employees to work anywhere.
The layoffs could come as early as Friday, if not sooner, according to FT information, adding that Musk has already made his mark on Twitter since the closing of the acquisition, asking employees to work full-time on select projects.
Late last week, Musk overhauled the team, firing executives including Twitter boss Parag Agrawal, while bringing a small group of trusted advisers into the company, including his personal attorney, Alex Spiro.
