The naval sector is concerned about the repercussions caused by customs duties established by the US government, which, “by avoiding the traditional rules of the World Trade Organization,” threaten the competitiveness of the naval industry. The Gican, the professional union of the sector, sounds the alarm.
The Gican highlights the risks to the market of sea drones, particularly dynamic in France (exeile, marinetech, seawl, etc.), but also the consequences of the call to industrial relocation with the United States, capable of penalizing investment projects in Europe.
An action plan and recommendations
Therefore, Gican encourages “implementing a European industrial strategy” to preserve the competitiveness of shipyards and formulate six “strategic recommendations.”
Among the recommended actions are in particular: support for investments and finance national programs, including research, development and innovation, the application of European preference for the renewal and modernization of fleets, the strengthening of the dual and military nature of technologies, the harmonization of training and qualifications, the establishment of a “workforce” to support the industry of the industry.
