Germany will help Ukraine produce missiles without restriction in his soil, announced Failedrich Merz chancellor on Wednesday, May 28, receiving President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin.
“Our defense ministers will sign today a memorandum of understanding about the acquisition of weapons systems with a long -range Ukrainian manufacturing (…) Ukraine can defend themselves completely, even against military objectives outside their national territory, this is good news,” said the chancellor at a press conference.
“Today we take a first step in cooperation between Germany and Ukraine in the production of long -range weapons, and it will be an industrial cooperation that can take place both in Ukraine and here in Germany,” added Friedrich Merz, refusing to give additional details.
More restrictions available to weapons provided in Kyiv
On Monday, the German chancellor said that the main Western allies of Ukraine, including Berlin, no longer set restrictions available to weapons provided in kyiv, which causes a warning of the Kremlin.
Friedrich Merz had not given more details, generating some confusion in the interpretation of his words.
Until now, kyiv continues to affirm, in vain, the delivery of Berlin of long -term Taurus German missiles, with a range of more than 500 km, which allows the Russian territory to be reached in depth.
A “strategic ambiguity” by Friedrich Merz
Under his predecessor, Foreign Minister Olaf Scholz, Germany, the second provider of military aid in Ukraine after the United States, had always refused to provide these weapons, fearing a worsening of tensions with Russia.
Since he came to power on May 6, Friedrich Merz Proctor on the subject, preferring to play “strategic ambiguity” by not revealing his letters.
Berlin, however, seems in the little eager reality to deliver these missiles. Moscow warned in advance that such direct deliveries would be considered a participation of Berlin in the war. The common Kyiv production of the long Ukrainian missiles makes it possible to avoid this obstacle.
Until now, Germany has not provided weapons with a range of more than 70 kilometers.
