Negotiations between France and China on anti -dumping sanctions aimed at Cognac and Armagnac are “on the right way,” the foreign trade delegate of foreign trade during a trip to Charente said on Monday.
“I had a discussion with the Minister of Commerce (Chinese note, of the editor) in early June, which made it possible to continue an argument between the actors of the sector and the Chinese authorities about the minimum price commitments. This discussion, at a time when we talk, is still underway,” said Laurent Saint-Martin to the press, after meeting with the sector and visiting an exploitation.
“We should not be triumphant, we have not been successful, but it is on the right path,” added the minister.
China: a quarter of French exports of Coñac
Beijing must publish on July 5 the conclusions of its anti -dumping survey on the imports of European Brandys (wines, mainly cognac), carried out in retaliation by the European procedure aimed at the state subsidies enjoyed by electric vehicles manufactured in China.
On June 12, the Federation of Wine Exporters and Spirits of France indicated that the negotiations focused on a price increase from 12 to 16% for these alcohols, while Beijing planned to increase its customs tasks by more than 30%. Since fall, temporary measures have required that importers present an equivalent deposit with Chinese customs.
“In parallel, there are commitments that we ask the Chinese authorities: that we can find our cognac products in the display of taxes at airports (and) that all deposits of deposits were made by our houses are raised and reimbursed,” said Laurent Saint-Martin.
Similarly, although China distinguishes the companies that the cooperative considers and others do not, “we want all the houses of Coñac to be treated with the same brand. Because there are obviously large groups, but there are also many small and medium -sized companies whose future depends on these decisions and the end of this negotiation,” said the minister.
Only China receives a quarter of French exports of Coñac.
