BFMTV survey. 6 out of 10 French will leave vacations this summer (it is more than in 2024)

According to an Elabe survey for BFMTV, 63 % of the French plan to go on vacation this summer, 10 points more than last year.

Large traffic jams are expected this weekend on the roads due to vacation outings. Bison Futé sees red throughout France and this Saturday, July 12, is even classified black in the Auverne-Rhône-Alpes region.

And the roads could be even more congested than usual since 63% of the French plan to go on vacation this summer. This is 10 points more than last year and 5 points more than in 2023 according to a new Elabe survey for BFMTV.

The main explanation of this increase is the slowdown in inflation, according to Elabe. The Institute recalls that inflation, measured by 0.9% in June 2025, weighs less in budgets than in previous years. The price index rose 4.9% in July 2023 and 2.3% in July 2024.

Financial difficulties remain, with much, the first obstacle to vacation outings according to this survey. 13% of the French, or 8.9 million people, will not leave this summer because they cannot pay it.

On the other hand, for those who leave, the budgets should increase significantly. With an average envelope of 1,838 euros on average, the French hope to spend 410 euros more than last summer according to Elabe and 182 euros more than in 2023. Elabe points out that this progression is particularly marked between children under 50 and executives.
