A drop in Trompe L’Oeil. According to Dares, the number of people registered in category A (without any activity) in France Work fell 5.7% between April and June compared to the previous quarter.
But in reality, the recorders in category A increased by 0.2%, once the effects of the latest neutralized reforms. In the same way, the number of applicants required to find a job (categories a, b, c) falls by 2.2 % during the quarter (-126,000) but increased by 0.9 % by ruling out recent developments.
New rules
As a reminder, the update rules in France were evolved in January and a decree was published in June strengthening the sanctions for employment applicants who would lose their obligations. In the first quarter, the figures in France’s work had also been “strongly affected” by the automatic record of RSA beneficiaries.
“It is estimated that in the absence of these two modifications (update and sanctions of decrees), the evolution of the number of registered in the second quarter of 2025 would have been +0.2% for category A and +0.9% for categories A, B, c. It is these developments that better reflect the cyclic situation of the labor market.
