“It’s not bad, but old and black.” Although he participated in a recruitment process in a Belgian accounting firm, Natali Tshepupu received an email from a DRH responsible for his recruitment that was not destined for it, demonstrating his discrimination in hiring, Free Midi reports.
On the basis of this written test, Natali Tshepupu was able to condemn the company for double discrimination, both racist and based on age, which allowed him to obtain a double compensation.
Double compensation discrimination
“They asked me for my nationality, my age and my salary. At the bottom of the email there was an internal electronic emails, which was not destined for me,” says Natali Tshepupu, who remembers having spent time to recover from the message he had read.
While initially he did not think about complaining, it was friends who convinced her not to resign himself to this discrimination in hiring. The discriminated candidate thus resorted to Actiris, an agency for the employment of Brussels and Unia, an equal opportunities center, to affirm their rights.
The Belgian Accounting Cabinet defended himself by stating “other people of immigration”, but was still convicted.
“I have Congolese roots, but I have lived in Belgium since my childhood. Racism is often so subtle that it cannot be proven, and we maintain this terrible feeling. Now, it could be tested, and justice would be there,” said Natali Tscheupu, after the trial.
