The European Union is close to ending a joint declaration with the United States in its framework for a commercial agreement, although you still cannot advance a precise publication date, said a senior European official on Tuesday, August 5.
The previous day, a European commission spokesman said that the EU will suspect its two countermeasures against customs duties in the United States for six months, after an agreement with the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
Suspension of European countermeasures for six months
The agreement concluded between the EU and the United States on July 27, which established customs duties of 15% in most European products leave many unanswered questions, particularly with respect to the rate that will be applied to spirits and the absence of exclusions such as cars and automobile spare parts. The EU representatives said they expected other decrees soon.
“By taking into account these objectives, the Commission will take the necessary measures to suspend EU countermeasures for six months against the United States, which would come into force on August 7,” the EU added in the press release. Customs retaliation tasks are divided into two parts: one in response to American surcharges on steel and aluminum, and the other to customs tasks in the car and the initial position of Donald Trump.
