“Costs in thousands”: the German car lobby urges the EU to collaborate with Donald Trump in customs prices

At the end of July, Donald Trump and the president of the European Commission concluded an agreement that, according to the European Union, would bring US customs duties to 15% cars, against 27.5% before.

Germany and the European Union are expected to collaborate with the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to reduce customs duties in cars, according to the American state agreement, said the German car lobby on Tuesday, warning that billions were at stake.

“The United States must abolish its sectoral customs duties in European and German car industries,” said Hildegard Müller, head of the VDA car lobby, with a Handelsblatt Economic Daily.

At the end of July, Donald Trump and the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, concluded an agreement that, according to the EU, would bring the tasks of US customs customs to cars to 15%, against 27.5% before.

An agreement that brings “without clarity or any improvement”

But the US government has not yet eliminated its sectoral customs duties in cars, and Hildegard Müller said nothing had changed for car manufacturers on the field.

Speaking during a habitual press conference on Tuesday, the EU spokesman for Commerce, Olof Gill, said he could not establish a precise date for the complete implementation of the US State Agreement.

“The United States has undertaken that the 15% general customs law applies to cars,” he said. “We don’t know precisely when it will happen. We know what will happen.”
