President Donald Trump said Friday that it was not necessary to immediately consider commercial sanctions against countries such as China for his Russian oil purchases, and added, however, that he may have to do with the problem in two or three weeks again. Anxious to stop the war in Ukraine, the chief of the White House threatened Russia with sanctions if progress was not observed towards peace. He also warned that he could take secondary sanctions against countries that obtain Russian oil, at the forefront of which China and India, in addition to its customs duties policy.
Donald Trump made his threat with respect to India, establishing additional taxes of 25% last week in Indian products imported to the United States. However, he was careful not to do the same with respect to China, so the commercial truce extended last week for 90 days.
“Maybe I’m going to think about it”
The question of knowing if he was going to take sanctions against Beijing at the end of his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who did not lead to any peace agreement or fire cessation in Ukraine, said the US president in an interview with the Fox News channel that was not necessary in the immediate future.
Donald Trump has given India, one of the largest crude oil importers in the world, three weeks to find alternative suppliers to Russia. For the US President, the deadline of August 27 is an attempt to deprive Moscow of significant income for his offensive in Ukraine. The American surcharge of 25% already instead for Indian products will double to 50% if India does not conclude an agreement.
