“Blood On The Hands”: Greta Thunberg of Environmental Activists Blocks the main refinery of Norway

The activists of the Rebellion Extinction Movement blocked in the Mongstad Refinery on Monday on the Norwegian coast.

Some 200 environmental activists, including Swedish Greta Thunberg, blocked the most important refinery in Norway on Monday to affirm that this country ends its oil and gas industry, according to the organizers and the police. Rebellion extinction activists sat along the way, blocking access to the Mongstad Refinery in Bergen, on the southwest coast of Norway, while a group of kayaks and candle ships blocked the entrance of the port.

“We are here because it is perfectly clear that there is no future in oil. Fossil fuels lead to death and destruction,” said Greta Thunberg in a statement, added that oil producers like Norway “have blood in their hands.” By emitting greenhouse gases, fossil fuels feed global warming.

First European producer

Police said they have been in the place from 9 am to local time (the same time zone as continental France) and monitor the situation, activists announced their partial plan to continue their movement throughout the week in Norway through a series of demonstrations. The Mongstad Refinery is owned by the Giant Equinor of Petroleum, mainly detained by the Norwegian State. Activists claim that Norwegian leaders are a “oil and gas output plan.”

Norway is regularly criticized by its oil and gas sector, of which it is the first European producer. Oslo recalls that this sector is a source of jobs and knowledge and highlights the importance of guaranteeing a stable energy supply in Europe. Equinor has announced the plan to maintain stable oil production at 2035 at 1.2 million barrels per day and gas production of 40 billion cubic meters per year.
