The painful Covid page seems to have been rotated for the air transport sector. In 2024, the traffic of kilometers of passengers, the reference index of the sector, exceeded the level of 2019 by 3.8%, by progressing in more than 10% for a year. Or almost 4.9 billion passengers worldwide, a record.
The airplanes of the 340 companies represented by IATA, the main organization of the sector, were filled on average to 83.5%. And according to the annual Lobby report, the premium classes have never been so much.
According to the figures transmitted by the specialized site travel site.
39 million premium passengers in Europe
A total of 116.9 million passengers have chosen one of these classes to travel, or 6% of the total, the report underlines.
It is in the Pacific Region of Asia that the growth of traffic in these classes was the strongest growth (+22.8 % to 21 million passengers), ahead of Latin America/Caribbean (+21.8 %).
In Europe, growth in premium classes is also greater than that of the ECO class: +8.1%against +5.1%, while general traffic increased by 5.3%. It is even the region of the world where, in volume, the number of premium passengers is the highest (39.3 million).
But it is in the Middle East that its participation in the total is the largest with 14.7%.
