Before the automotive crisis, the German Bosch will further eliminate jobs to save 2.5 billion per year

Given the increase in international competition, the Bosch automotive supplier provides a new wave of employment cuts, especially in Germany.

The German team supplier Bosch announced on Tuesday the expansion of its restructuring plan in the car and wants to save 2.5 billion euros per year, particularly for new posts of positions, facing the persistent difficulties of the sector in Europe.

The group appointed market conditions “even more difficult”, delays in electromobilility and automated driving, as well as “very high pressure on prices and competition in the global automotive industry,” according to a press release.

The drop in demand has led to “overcapacity” and a reduction in “staff demand,” adds the group, which “will” present “measures to the representatives of the personnel.

1,100 deletions have already been announced

The group did not specify where the deletions of the positions would be carried out, but Germany is particularly directed by the costs of its workforce and the weakness of the European market.

Bosch had announced this summer up to 1,100 additional employment by 2029 in Germany in the same division this summer, which adds to the 7,000 jobs eliminated worldwide, all sectors, announced last year. The group currently uses 418,000 people worldwide.

To reduce costs, the group is also based on productivity gains, particularly thanks to artificial intelligence. The mobility division should grow by “less than 2%” in 2025, “well below expectations,” according to the press release.

A sector in difficulty

Manufacturers and automobile suppliers in Germany are reducing global demand, the increase in costs, Chinese competition and, more recently, the increase in US customs tasks.

The first German car manufacturer, Volkswagen, offers 35,000 less positions in Germany against 5,000 in the Daimler Giant Daimler truck.

Ford announced on Monday to 1,000 new suppressions of additional jobs to its Colonia (West) factory, which are added to the elimination plan of 2,900 jobs already announced last year.

As for team manufacturers, Continental, ZF and Schaeffler have also announced thousands of employment cuts in recent months worldwide.
