The car manufacturer in Ford Crisis announced Tuesday to aim at 1,000 new employment cuts on Tuesday in its German colony factory (west) due to the weakness of the demand, which illustrates the persistent crisis in the automotive sector.
Consequently, the group plans to reduce the production rate from January 2026 in its last German factory activity, located in the land of Rhine-Du-Nord-Westphalie.
“This decision will eliminate up to 1,000 jobs” in this factory, according to the press release, specifying that the group will offer voluntary start allocations. This new announcement is added to the 2,900 publications of publications already announced in 2024 and that have to intervene by 2027.
20,000 to 7,600 employees
The group also just concluded an agreement with the employees of Colonia, including departure compensation, partly at the end of their progressive career and retirement. The future orientation of the factory remained “uncertain”, according to the Malll IG union.
At the end of the new registration reduction, Ford will only have 7,600 employees in Colonia, according to the popular Daily Bild. At the end of the previous decade, they had about 20,000. Ford has already finished the activity of his Saarlouis factory (West) in 2025, which produced the Ford Focus.
Manufacturers and automobile suppliers in Germany are reducing global demand, the increase in costs, Chinese competition and, more recently, the increase in US customs tasks. The first German car manufacturer, Volkswagen, is preparing the abolition of 35,000 jobs in the country.
