It still doesn’t work. Upon the arrival of Shein at the BHV facilities in Paris, the employees decided to mobilize. The department store union calls a strike this Friday.
A demonstration is planned for 3:00 p.m. in front of the BHV, in Paris, in the 4th arrondissement. For this occasion, a press point will be organized in the presence of Nicolas Bonnet Oulaldj, Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of Commerce.
On October 1, Shein and SGM (which operates BHV and Galeries Lafayette in the provinces) announced an alliance for the gradual opening of six physical and permanent stores in the colors of the ultra-ephemeral fashion brand at reduced prices.
For this reason, Shein must install itself on the sixth floor of the BHV in Paris, inaugurated in 1856. Until now, it only sold its products online or through pop-up stores.
Shock wave
This announcement by an actor accused by his detractors of putting an end to French ready-to-wear immediately provoked the indignation of merchants and some politicians. The Caisse des Dépôts had already said the day after the announcement that it “does not support” the alliance between Shein and SGM.
The Banque des Territoires, for its part, decided to interrupt ongoing negotiations with the operator, the Société des Grands Magasins (SGM), to buy back the store premises.
Finally, several brands like Aime have decided to leave the store. “We have expressed our desire to leave, our decision is firm and final. We have built our brand with strong values and it is important to have partners who share these values. If we stayed, we would have the impression of supporting what Shein does, we refused and that is why we are leaving,” Mathilde Lacombe, its co-founder, explained to BFM Business.
