All representative unions will participate in the launch of the work and pensions conference, except the CGT

While the Government launches, almost a month ahead of schedule, the social conference on work and pensions on Tuesday, November 4, the CGT indicated this Friday that it will not participate in the first meeting.

Diary problem. The CGT will not participate on Tuesday, November 4, in the launch of the Work and Pensions conference, initiated by the government because the union celebrates that day its national confederal committee (CCN) with all its leaders, its general secretary, Sophie Binet, told AFP on Friday.

Contacted by BFM Business, the president of the CFTC, Cyril Chabanier, and the secretary general of FO, Frédéric Souillot, also confirmed their presence at this first meeting. The leader of FO will be represented by his number two Patricia Drevon and his head of public service Christian Grolier.

The CFE-CGC, for its part, will be represented by Christelle Thieffinne and Maxime Legrand, its president, François Hommeril, explained to AFP.

On the part of businessmen, Michel Picon, president of the Union of Local Enterprises (U2P), and Éric Chevée, vice-president of the CPME, told BFM Business that they will also participate in the launch of this social conference dedicated to work and retirement, scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Reform the pension system

The Minister of Labor, Jean-Pierre Farandou, announced on Friday the launch on Tuesday of this conference requested by the Prime Minister, on the day of the opening of debates in the Assembly on the social security budget (PLFSS), where the suspension of the pension reform will be a key issue.

The ministry specified that it will be a meeting “dedicated to the presentation of this initiative as well as the first debates on the planned format and working method.”

In fact, there is a risk of generating a debate about the need to fundamentally reform the system. At the beginning of October, on the set of BFM Business, the general secretary of the CFDT, Marylise Léon, advocated moving to point-based retirement, considering “that a retirement system built around a legal age [est] We recall that the transition from a pay-as-you-go system to a point-based retirement was considered for a time in 2020, before this hypothesis was abandoned in the context of the health crisis linked to Covid-19.

Also before the microphone of BFM Business, on October 20, the president of the CFTC, Cyril Chabanier, advocated for a universal regime, considering that the 42 existing regimes are not equitable. He also said that he was open to adding a level of capitalization, a serious path for the government but far from unanimous among the social partners.
