SNCF: a strike threatens the Christmas holiday trains

Captains have already filed strike notices for Christmas and New Year’s weekends.

New social fever at the SNCF. Although a surprise and massive strike is planned from Friday to next Sunday with the key to the cancellation of 60% of the TGV and Intercités, now there is a threat to the Christmas holidays.

In fact, the captains (the controllers behind this weekend’s strike) have already filed strike notices for Christmas and New Year weekends according to AFP.

The nearly 10,000 SNCF train supervisors, of whom nearly 3,000 work at TGV and Intercités, play an essential role in traffic and passenger safety. Without them, a train will not leave.

On the traveler’s journey, the skipper is the only railwayman he finds. We are at the end of the funnel of all the problems”, explained to AFP Rénald Szpitalnik, elected SUD-Rail and controller of the TGV Paris-Milan. While they are the showcase business of the SNCF!”

Their demands concern salaries, professional development and, in general, greater recognition of the specificities of the role by the management of SNCF Voyageurs.

“We are waiting for management to become aware of the specific condition of the controllers”, whose working conditions have “degraded for a long time”, he insists.

For its part, the management of SNCF Voyageurs regrets in a press release a movement maintained “while concrete and important measures have been proposed to the unions after several weeks of negotiations.” Measures considered “crumbs” by the unions.

Remember that all travelers, whether their train is maintained or cancelled, and regardless of their ticket, can get a full refund of the trips planned during a strike or change their ticket for free on all trains on which there are places.
