Around 100 security workers working for the cross-Channel railway company Eurostar in the UK will go on strike for four days over the busy Christmas holiday period, demanding wage increases in line with runaway inflation in the country.
Members of the RMT sector union employed by service provider Mitie “will go on strike on December 16, 18, 22 and 23,” following a majority vote in favor of strike action, the union said in a statement.
Service “severely disrupted” before Christmas
This social movement will “seriously disturb” the Eurostar service during the pre-Christmas period, stresses RMT.
“Eurostar security guards are essential to the operation” of these trains that run between the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands and Belgium, and “it is shameful that they do not receive a living wage” that “Mitie can afford to pay.” said Mick Lynch, RMT General Secretary.
“I ask Mitie and Eurostar to reach a negotiated agreement with RMT as soon as possible,” he continued.
These four days of strike will be added to other strikes on British rail lines.
