“People who are at high life risk are not among the priority clients defined by the prefectures.” A guest of BFMTV this Monday evening, Laurent Méric, spokesman for Enedis, took stock of the people and territories designated as “priority”, in case of power outages this winter.
According to him, patients with artificial respirators are “non-priority” and “possibly detached”. The latter, however, will not be left behind, says Laurent Méric. Affected patients are asked to report to the ARS (Regional Health Agencies), which can then refer them to Enedis.
Notified 48 hours before the cuts
“We pay special attention to them, they have a dedicated telephone number,” explained the Enedis spokesperson. Two days before any power outage, these high-risk patients (PHRV) will be contacted by Enedis. “We will call them, we will send them an SMS, an email, to see if they have taken precautions,” explained Laurent Méric.
These people will then be “helped” by Enedis and transported “to a place that will not be relieved so that they are given the greatest guarantee.”
“Normal” to designate priority areas
“We are all on an equal footing” in the face of power outages, also estimated Laurent Méric. Asked about a possible disparity between rural France and the France of the big cities, he considered it “normal” to define priority places, which would be spared from these cuts. “If there are obviously more hospitals in the big cities, these are the areas that will have priority. We can understand that, it is legitimate, ”he concluded.
Elisabeth Borne’s government has already presented a series of measures to deal with possible power cuts this winter, due to the historically low production of the nuclear park. Power cuts will be programmed and focused -two consecutive hours maximum with load shedding confirmed the day before- in case of overload of the electrical network.
