After Forbes last week, it is now Bloomberg’s turn to place Bernard Arnault at the top of the world’s richest personalities. The head of LVMH is credited with a fortune of 170.6 billion dollars, ahead of Elon Musk (163.1 billion), according to the ranking prepared by the US financial press agency.
On the side of the Forbes ranking established according to another method, Bernard Arnault (and his family) remains the first fortune in the world with 188.6 billion euros, and widens the gap with the head of Tesla (174.7 billion dollars). Last Friday, the Frenchman was only 1.2 billion ahead of the American.
Elon Musk’s fortune is melting
Bernard Arnault only owes his first place to the fall of Elon Musk who has seen his fortune plummet by more than 100,000 million dollars since January while technology shares have been penalized by financial markets since the tightening of the banks’ monetary policy central.
By buying Twitter for $44 billion in October, the American billionaire also saw the Tesla stock collapse, amid investor fears that the latter was too busy with its new features within the social network, to the detriment of the maker of cars.
Prospects for Bernard Arnault, whose wealth comes largely from his 48% stake in LVMH, look much better as the luxury sector is expected to post sustained growth over the next few years.
