Towards a good Christmas for the French toy market, thanks in particular to adults. Because adults now buy toys. “It is a very strong growth market,” he confirmed this Thursday in BFM business Joué Club spokesman, Franck Mathais. 28% of today’s toy sales are to adults, up from 20% the year before.
For the spokesperson for the specialized distributor, the health crisis has gone through this. “We have rediscovered the pleasure of playing, the pleasure also of having fantastic characters that we adore”, emphasizes Franck Mathais, who also evokes a “incomplexity” linked to the madness for video games. “We are no longer afraid to display Mario or Dragon Ball Z figures in our living room,” he noted. A true lever of growth for the toy market.
Pokémon, Paw Patrol, Jurassic World
Beyond the adult market, it is the licenses that reign in the world of toys. Superheroes, Jurassic World, Pokémon cards, Paw Patrol for the little ones. These “heroes” represent “around 25% of sales, that is, one in four toys,” said the Joué Club spokesman.
Board games continue, both for children and adults. Some board games, like “Beat That,” are very successful.
Without forgetting the great classics, essential for Christmas. Barbie, Lego or even Playmobil will not be missing under the tree on December 25.
And the “made in France”? If there is a trend for products made in France, the latter “spread” across all categories and no product really stands out from the rest, Franck Mathais underlines, taking the “Joyful Storyteller” made in Nantes as an example.
