LIVE – Pension reform: mobilization, presentation to the Council of Ministers… What’s next for the bill?

After a day of mobilization on Thursday, January 19, that brought together between 1.12 million (according to Interior figures) and 2 million people (according to the CGT), what will happen?

After a first day of mobilization, the calendar of opponents

The inter-union (CGT, CFDT, FO, CFE-CGC, CFTC, Unsa, Solidaires, FSU) calls for a new day of protest against the pension reform on Tuesday, January 31.

But other actions are scheduled for early next week. Although the reform must be presented to the Council of Ministers on January 23, the unions also want to mobilize on that day:

“The inter-union (…) calls for more actions and initiatives throughout the territory, in companies and services, in places of study, even due to strikes, especially throughout the January 23, day of presentation of the law in the Council of Ministers”, explained on Thursday, January 19, Murielle Guilbert, general co-delegate of SUD Solidaires.

What calendar for the pension reform?

On Monday, January 23, the bill will be presented to the Council of Ministers. The objective of the Government is to apply the reform in summer:

  • Starting Monday, January 30: debate in commission of the National Assembly,
  • As of Monday, February 6: start of the debates by the deputies in session,
  • End of February, beginning of March: approval of the text in the Senate, parliamentary shuttle,
  • End of summer: application of the text (government objective)
