The number of companies created in France reached a new record in 2022, with 1.072 million registrations, INSEE announced on Friday.
With Insee changing its method of accounting for company creations in 2022, the threshold of one million had already been exceeded in 2021 under the new method.
In raw data, the total number of companies created in 2022 increased by 2% compared to 2021 and reached the record level of 1.072 million creations during the year against 1.05 million last year.
The creation of companies under the microentrepreneurs regime increased significantly (+2.8%) but the creation of companies was even stronger (+4.8%). On the other hand, the creation of traditional sole proprietorships fell sharply (-7.4%).
“Classic” companies on the rise
In the year as a whole, the share of “classic” companies called members represented 27.4% of creations (compared to 26.6% in 2021). More than 293,000 companies were created compared to 279,000 in 2021.
Microentrepreneurs 61.2% (compared to 60.8% in 2021). And sole proprietorships 11.4% (12.6% in 2021).
This record was reached despite the drop in creations in December with a drop of 3.4% in one month. In the last month of the year, the creation of companies fell in most sectors.
They fell sharply in domestic services (-10% after +6.5%) and fell again in support for companies (-3.2%, like the previous month).
They fell sharply in manufacturing (-16.3% after +5.3%) and in education, health and social work (-7.3% after +4%). On the contrary, the creation of companies continued to increase in transport and storage (+6.4% compared to +5.2%) and in accommodation and catering (+3.3% compared to +4.5%).
