Be careful if you have to fly this Friday and especially Air France. In fact, the company is canceling 55% of its short and medium haul following a strike notice from an air traffic controllers’ union demanding wage increases in particular.
France’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) had asked airlines on Tuesday to give up one in two flights. Therefore, he invited “passengers who can do so to postpone their trip and check with their airline to find out the status of their flight.”
On the other hand, Air France plans to operate around 90% of its long-haul flights.
However, the company warns that delays or last minute cancellations “cannot be ruled out”. “Customers affected by canceled flights will be notified individually by SMS and email,” it adds.
Repercussions in Europe
This strike could also have repercussions on all European air traffic. The administration said it was working “with the European network administrator (Eurocontrol) to offer airlines measures to circumvent national airspace.”
The SNCTA, the majority union of air traffic controllers at the origin of this statement, stressed for its part that it decided on this movement to express its concern “for the current level of inflation as well as future hires”.
“While the 2023 finance bill, currently being drafted, reaches Parliament in October, the absence of guarantees from the DGAC and public authorities is unacceptable,” added the union, in a press release published on its website. website.
