Deputies and senators reached an agreement on Tuesday night on the bill dedicated to renewable energies, with a compromise version that will be submitted to a final vote in both chambers.
It took four and a half hours for this joint committee to come up with this text overnight. The Assembly must now vote for the last time on Tuesday, January 31, while the date of the Senate vote is not yet specified.
Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne welcomed this agreement on Twitter, the result of “cross-party work”.
Make up for France’s delay
At the Palais Bourbon, the executive is still waiting for the support of socialist and independent deputies from the small Liot group, as during the approval at first reading on January 10, to avoid disappointment.
In the joint commission, the fiercest negotiations between deputies and senators focused especially on the planning of areas to accelerate the deployment of renewable energies, with the approval of the municipalities, and on possible exclusion zones. Another sensitive issue, the supervision of agrovoltaism, combining agriculture and energy production.
The bill attempts to simplify procedures to make up for France’s lagging behind in renewable energy. In the Assembly, he strongly opposed MPs LR and RN, criticizing the “nuisance” of onshore wind turbines.
For its part, the Senate, with a right-wing majority, had largely adopted the text at first reading in early November.
