Pensions: Woerth estimates that at age 65 we live “without any particular problem for a good ten years”

This Wednesday, the Ensemble deputy and former minister Eric Woerth once again justified the postponement of the legal retirement age to 64, the main measure of the government reform project.

Should I work longer? Yes, answers Eric Woerth. On the LCI set, Juntos deputy and François Fillon’s former Minister of Labor advocated the government’s pension reform project, which provides in particular for the postponement of the legal exit age to 64 years.

Indeed, life expectancy in good health is high in France, “that is, the number of years that a person can expect to live without suffering a disability in the gestures of daily life”, the Drees also specifies.

According to DREE data, in 2019, a 65-year-old woman can expect to live another 11.5 years without disability. A 65-year-old man can expect to live 10.4 years without disability.

A significant gap between the richest and the poorest

But no recent study has been carried out on life expectancy in good health according to socio-professional category (workers, executives, CSP+, CSP-, etc.). However, “the richer you are, the greater the life expectancy”, writes the INSEE in a 2018 note.

Hence the reaction of Eric Coquerel, an LFI deputy, who was on the set of LCI facing off against Eric Woerth. “He always makes the same people suffer,” denounces the elected rebel. “The only solution that is proposed is to work more time and therefore you can have less time [vivre] of your retirement”, he laments.
