Estimated at 10 billion euros, the cost of natural disasters is the highest since 1999 in France

The 2022 bill for natural disasters is estimated at 10 billion euros, according to France Assureurs, the highest amount in 23 years.

The cost of natural disasters in France is expected to reach 10,000 million euros in 2022, the president of France Assureurs announced Thursday, a record since 1999, due to the “intensification of extreme weather events” and an “increase in its frequency”. .

The year 2022 “on the front of climatic events is truly the annus horribilis”, stressed Florence Lustman, questioned on Europe 1, citing hailstorms, storms, floods and “an equally exceptional year on the drought front”.

After 1999, which was marked by the storms in December and generated costs of 14.5 billion euros, this is the second most expensive year in forty years.
