ACT reports 1,540 companies due to gender pay gaps

As of Thursday, the Authority for Working Conditions (ACT) reports 1,540 companies with 50 or more employees with a pay inequality between men and women of 5% or more.

In a statement, the Department of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security said the notification will be made by email, giving employers “120 days to submit the pay gap assessment plan to ACT and one year to implement the plan.” and correct the unjust wages”. differences”.

“If they do not present this plan, they are committing a practice that constitutes a serious administrative offense, which can carry a fine of up to around 13,000 euros and a minimum value of 612 euros,” he says.

In addition, by applying an additional sanction, they can be “excluded from participation in auctions or public tenders for a maximum period of two years”.

The Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, quoted in the statement, says that “this is a historic step to combat the pay gap and strengthen the presence of women in the labor market, at a decisive moment for the country , for employees and for companies”.

Law No. 60/2018, known for equal pay between men and women, has been in force since 2019.

According to ministry data, the gender pay gap in Portugal currently stands at 13.3%, equivalent to more than 48 days a year when women would not be paid for their work.
