The average total monthly gross salary per Portuguese worker increased by 3.6% in nominal terms, but decreased by 4.0% in real terms, in 2022 compared to 2021, amounting to 1411 euros, the National Institute of Statistics ( INE) announced this Thursday.
In 2021, total compensation has increased in both terms: 3.5% nominal and 2.2% real.
Last year, the regular gross monthly wage – excluding holiday and Christmas allowances and therefore less seasonal – amounted to 1,140 euros, a nominal increase of 3.1% and a real decrease of 4.4% (in 2021 it had risen by 3.1% and 1 .8%, respectively unadjusted and adjusted for inflation).
Also in 2022, the gross monthly salary amounted to 1,070 euros and experienced a nominal increase of 3.0% and a real decrease of 4.5% (in 2021 it had increased by 3.0% and 1.7% respectively, in nominal and real terms).
It should be noted that the consumer price index (CPI) had a positive variation of 7.8% in 2022 and was 1.3% in 2021.
