Medina excludes changes in TAP managers’ salaries

The controversial compensation of half a million euros to Alexandra Reis is insufficient reason for the cabinet to reconsider the compensation for directors and directors of TAP. The Minister of Finance, Fernando Medina, assured this Tuesday 28 that, although he is “always available to make adjustments”, no decisions should be made “in the heat of the moment on an issue that will only weaken the state “.

“Whoever defends a public CGD that plays a good role, it will only exist if the governance framework is closer to the financial sector. There must be this realism,” he defended, referring to the fact that “the state must be careful” when “rethinking the management compensation system of listed companies”. According to Medina, this scenario could have damaging consequences for the government.

“Making a change can harm us. TAP’s approved framework from a salary point of view is what prevailed in the past because of the company’s insertion into a competitive model,” he justified in response to communist deputy, Duarte Alves.

As for the conclusions of the report of the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) regarding the controversial compensation paid to Alexandra Reis, the official refused to clarify the questions of the deputies and referred his position to the statement of the Ministry of Finance , which was released last Sunday. “I have nothing more to add. When the report is delivered to the Ministry of Finance, its conclusions will be publicly known,” he stressed.

The Ministry of Finance made it clear last weekend that the IGF’s action is still “in the contradictory phase” and that a final report will not be prepared until later.

Meanwhile, the newspaper Eco reported this Monday that Alexandra Reis will have to pay back the compensation of 500 thousand euros, because irregularities have been found in the termination agreement between the manager and TAP, according to the preliminary conclusions of the IGF report. The document holds responsible. There will be responsible: former Secretary of State Hugo Mendes, who has already resigned, and the chairman of TAP, Manuel Beja, who is in office.
