Jobless claims fell more than expected in the United States for the week to March 11, to 192,000 from 212,000 (revised) the week before, the Labor Department announced Thursday.
Economists expected an average of 205,000 jobless claims.
Registrations for the previous week were revised slightly higher from an initial estimate of 211,000.
Decrease in the number of beneficiaries
The four-week moving average stands at 196,500 from 197,250 (revised) the previous week.
The number of regular recipients of benefits rose to 1,684 million during the week to March 4 (last week for which these figures are available) compared to 1,713 million the previous week.
