Discount at the pump: a measure of 171 million euros for TotalEnergies

Questioned in the National Assembly, its general director, Patrick Pouyanné, assures that the giant pays tens of billions of dollars in taxes throughout the world.

Since September 1, TotalEnergies has launched a discount of 20 euro cents per liter of fuel in its stations that is added to the 30 cents from the government.

During a hearing in the National Assembly on Wednesday as part of the Flash mission on super-profits, its executive director, Patrick Pouyanné, revealed that to date, this measure has cost the group the sum of 171 million euros. profit of 5,700 million dollars generated by the group in the second quarter.

Especially since this measure also makes it possible to increase the frequency of its stations by around 40% compared to the same period last year, the company tells BFM Business. And this after having already seen the frequency of its stations on highways jump from 20 to 25%. this summer thanks to a discount of 12 centshad underlined in BSmart Patrick Pouyanne.

“The new reductions translate into an avalanche of French in our stations”, confirms the general manager. “I don’t win anything,” he insists. And specify that in October the discount will drop to 10 cents.

What however relaunches the demands of many politicians to tax these superprofits. At the Assembly, the CEO recalled that TotalEnergies will have to pay this year 30,000 million dollars in taxes and taxes on production throughout the world and added that the group “will have to pay taxes on profits in France this year”.

“The French see TotalEnergies superprofits directly at the pump”

And stress that “taxing European manufacturers risks leading to a reorientation of investment within companies.” Hence the possibility that the group will go to the least taxed country and leave only 60% of the refineries in France.

“Tout ce que vous faites au parlement est observé par les investisseurs. L’Europe est soumise à des tensions fortes et des signaux que seraient plus de taxación par les parlements européens, ce serait un mauvais signal envoyés aux investisseurs” souligne-tt- The.

“The French see TotalEnergies super-profits directly at the pump, I told Bruno Le Maire this week,” adds Patrick Pouyanné.

Initially strongly opposed to this idea of a tax, the government today says “don’t ban anything.”
