Green transition: TotalEnergies “activist” shareholders weigh 10%

At BFM Business, Adrien Couret, CEO of Aéma Groupe, hopes to influence TotalEnergies’ climate strategy through a coalition of committed shareholders.

guest of the great interview At BFM Business this Thursday, April 6, Adrien Couret, CEO of Aéma Groupe (MACIF, Aésio Mutuelle, Abeille Assurances, Ofi invest), said he wanted to be “an activist investor”. To do this, Aéma Groupe and other investment companies that are shareholders of large companies such as TotalEnergies and Engie, pressure them to commit to the ecological transition.

“As insurers, we are the first to be affected by climate change. We want the money we invest in these big companies to be used to change their strategy so that they take environmental and ecological transitions more into account,” explains Adrien Couret.

“With this 10% we can do many things”

Cheez TotalEnergies, “some elements of the strategy are not at all in line with compliance with the Paris agreements”, observes the general director of Aéma Groupe, referring to “projects that are a problem in relation to oil and gas extractions “.

To weigh in the balance, some shareholders come together and form a coalition. In Total, it represents “around 10%”.

“Like last year, we are going to present a resolution. Now, we have to fight for one. When the resolution is made, we vote against it and, above all, we make it known,” he said.

For Engie, Aéma Groupe wants details on the strategy regarding greenhouse gas emissions because “it is not explained enough”. At the moment, the coalition of committed shareholders weighs “only 2%.” “But that’s enough to start taking advantage of it,” says Adrien Couret.
