Officials: Guerini will “discuss” with the unions before the summer of wage increases

The Minister of Transformation and Public Function stressed that “the minimum wage of all public servants” has been “realigned” with the minimum wage with its last increase on May 1.

Transformation and Public Service Minister Stanislas Guerini said on Thursday he would meet with unions before the summer to discuss pay increases for civil servants. “We must be able to sit down at the table in the coming days. I will not wait for the summer, I think it is more a matter of days and weeks than a few months,” Guerini said during the course from an interview on France 2. According to him, the unions they had asked the government to “let May 1 pass.”

Insufficient index point defrost

For the unions, with whom the government must discuss the “big projects” for the public service throughout the first half of 2023, the discussion on wages is one of the priorities. Faced with inflation close to 6%, the thaw of the index point, the common salary base of 5.7 million civil servants, revalued by 3.5% at the beginning of the summer, is denounced as insufficient by the eight representative unions of civil servants. This increase means “2,000 euros a year for a midwife and 800 euros a year for a nursing assistant, for example in the hospital,” recalled Stanislas Guerini.

The minister has also highlighted that “the minimum wage for all civil servants” has been “realigned” with the minimum wage with its last increase on May 1.

Another issue is also on the table: that of salary increases “from the first years” in public service to “not freeze the beginning of a career too much.”
