Signs of a slowdown in inflation are slow to reach the Portuguese table. Food prices continue to rise, especially that of vegetables which rose by 35.5% in March compared to the same period of the previous year, being 12.3 percentage points above the European Union (EU) average, which reached 23.2% , according to data made available by Eurostat this Monday.
Fruit is also more expensive: costs rose by 20.7% in March, 11 points higher than the EU average, which was 9.7%, according to information from the European Statistical Office.
However, it should be noted that this analysis does not take into account zero VAT, implemented in Portugal for a range of 46 foods, including fruits and vegetables. The measure took effect on April 18.
