Orde accuses the government of wanting to terminate accountants and is preparing forms of struggle

The president of the Association of Chartered Accountants (OCC), Paula Franco, this Friday accused the government of wanting to end this profession by proposing that every citizen can file tax returns, and is therefore preparing battles.

“[…] The government wants to destroy a profession that has helped the country and companies to overcome all the difficulties and challenges,” the president said in a statement to members of the order.

According to the OCC, it is about the proposal to change the status of the profession, removing the exclusive powers.

Once approved, this proposal will allow anyone to file tax returns, no longer requiring the signature of a certified accountant on annual accounts and tax returns “who have or must have organized the accounting”.

Paula Franco warned that without certified accountants there will be more fraud and tax evasion, asking the class to unite to show its “strength and worth” and command respect.

The OCC also said that during the statute review process, it discussed and agreed with the State Secretariat of Taxation, which is responsible for the industry, a proposal that strengthens the public interest of the profession and the rights of certified accountants. .

However, the government’s proposal does not reflect the discussion with the order and “unfaithfully and unfairly” ends the exclusive powers of these professionals, he stressed.

“Certified accountants do not accept the extinction of the profession and the damage that the government wants to inflict on the country. Therefore, following the communication, we will inform the government that we will not accept this proposal,” he stressed.

Paula Franco also warned that if the government approves the proposal on the table next week in the Council of Ministers, it will assemble all certified accountants for the “initiatives and struggles necessary to defend the profession and the public interest”. , so that it does not get a ‘green light’ from the Assembly of the Republic.

“This moment is the most serious and difficult in the history of our professional life. It’s time to show our strength and power,” he concluded.
