An “extremely rare incident” according to the company, which fortunately caused no injuries. On Friday, June 2, a Volotea flight connecting Lourdes-Tarbes airport with Paris-Orly was forced to make an emergency landing in Bordeaux-Mérignac, a quarter of an hour after takeoff. In question: a depressurization of the cabin, reports Midi Office.
The Spanish company explains to the regional newspaper that “the plane descended rapidly, which caused a loss of oxygen, for which reason oxygen masks were released so that the passengers could breathe normally.” A moment of panic that the flight crew handled “very coldly”, testifies one of the 122 passengers on board.
According to Volotea, “a special area has been set up at the Bordeaux airport to provide personalized support to each of the passengers, who, like the crew, are in good health.” She adds that “she is now looking into what may have caused this depressurization.”
