Every streaming service has its own original hit shows, and for Hulu, that’s definitely it. The Handmaid’s Tale. The Emmy-winning dystopian drama is currently airing its fifth season for those with a Hulu subscription it was a wild ride that you covered departure of alexis bledel as Emily and in the foreground new intriguing characters . And actress Clea DuVall recently spoke to Gossipify about her “mighty” onscreen reunion with Elisabeth Moss or the Season 5 premiere.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 opened strong with the first episode entitled “Morning”. After the murder of Fred Waterford in the end of season 4 , it is revealed that Emily has returned to Gilead to hunt down Aunt Lydia and others. The scene was made possible by an outstanding interpretation of Clea DuVall as Sylvia, who had a fascinating back and forth with Elisabeth Moss’ lead June. As you can see in the video above, I recently had the privilege of speaking with the actress / director about her return in the handmaid’s tale (opens in a new tab), where he talked about what it was like to help end Emily’s story. as she told me,
I was supposed to be in season four, but with the pandemic I couldn’t. So I was really disappointed that it didn’t work, but very happy that they came to me with it. Elisabeth Moss, it was the first time we worked together on the series. We worked together on Girl Interrupted ten million years ago when she was 16. She has done a lot since then. In fact, I was doing high school while I was shooting this. So I flew in and I think I’ve been there for about 18 hours or something. We didn’t have much time.
Speak loudly. After being notoriously absent from The story of Emilia in season 4 of The Handmaid’s TaleHis fans were thrilled to see Emily’s wife Sylvia back on our screens … even if it was for such a dark occasion. And it looks like Clea DuVall had very little time to shoot this scene, which was right in front of her. girl interrupted with Elisabeth Moss.
Clea DuVall’s comments on her the handmaid’s tale the comeback stems from a larger conversation we had about his upcoming Amazon Freevee series Secondary education, which chronicles the childhood of queer music legends Tegan and Sara. Finally, I asked her about the really explosive scene she had in the Season 5 premiere where Sylvia challenged June in such a calm yet powerful way.
Later in our own chat, Clea DuVall talked about what it was like working with Elisabeth Moss, both as a partner and director of the fifth season premiere, “Morning”. As the accomplished multi-dash shared:
Lizzie was very generous as she was also directing the episode. And she really showed herself. When we started, it was like, inside. And I think because the show does such an amazing job of building the world and building the characters and their relationships, it was all there. And maybe it helped that we had a connection a long time ago, that we’re now back together on screen as adults. It was really powerful. And the writing, it was also all in the writing.
The points have been scored. Elisabeth Moss is a force of nature The Handmaid’s Tale, bringing raw emotion to his character episode after episode. Clea DuVall’s comments show how easily she fits into her character, even as she balances directing responsibilities for the first two episodes of the season. And the the happiest season the director thought it was powerful to meet her girl interrupted co-starring on the screen like this.
Since Alexis Bledel left her role in The Handmaid’s Tale, it’s unclear if / when we’ll see Clea DuVall’s character Sylvia again. But maybe if Emily ends up coming back at some point in the future (season 6 should be the last, establishment of the spin-off ) then we might have another one girls interrupted Encounter. Fingers crossed.
The Handmaid’s Tale airs new episodes Wednesday on Hulu and Clea DuVall’s Secondary education will debut on Amazon Freevee on October 14th. In the meantime, take a look at the list of autumn releases to plan your next binge watch.
