Return of the ‘Star Academy’: what social networks can change

Alexia Laroche-Joubert, director of the program for 20 years, talks to BFM Business about the changes that the new version of the program might require.

the star academy about to rise from its ashes. Ten years after its closure and a final season on NRJ 12, TF1’s cult tele-hook will return on October 15 to the first channel for a new broadside. And in a way, it could turn out to be quite different from the original show, as the world of entertainment has changed. This is the analysis made by Alexia Laroche-Joubert, director and producer of the Star Ac’ from 2001 to 2008, which this year yields to Michaël Goldman.

“A lot of questions come up,” he said Thursday on BFM Business’s ‘Hebdo Com’ show. “Times have changed a lot, the way of using social networks has changed a lot, international stars come less and less…”.

Fewer American singers?

According to her, it is essentially the technological revolution that will bring all these upheavals. The one who managed to bring Beyoncé, Madonna, Rihanna, Mariah Carey and many other world superstars in his time wonders about the viability of such an enterprise today:

“International stars traveled a lot when we had the opportunity to do ‘Star Academy.’ They don’t anymore, because there is social media. They communicate with their community through social media, they exchange their clips through social media. .. .”.

She notes, however, that the star academy The new formula has a contract with Sony Music France (with whom the winner of the season will sign for the recording of an album, in addition to receiving a check for 100,000 euros). “Sony being a big house, I guess they have to provide artists,” he says.

Candidates (a little) less isolated from the world

Alexia Laroche-Joubert also points out that in the totally digital age, “an artist’s creation is done a lot through social media.” A difficult parameter to take into account for a program that, historically, deprives its candidates of their phone and cuts off their internet access:

“I don’t know how they’re going to handle it. Are they going to give them access to social networks or not? Are they going to use them? Will there be a community effect? It is a spring that would develop if I had to resume (the program).

It so happens that the exhibition of the candidates on the web has been the object of reflection by the new teams of the fair. And a compromise was found, as reported 20 minutes. Like their predecessors, the candidates will live in self-sufficiency with a telephone minute a day. But after a while, those who are still in the castle will be given an unplugged phone to record stories, which will be posted on Instagram.

And to evoke, too, the violence that the users of these new platforms can show with respect to the candidates of the televised games. The director of Adventure Line Productions and president of the Miss France company, which pilots Koh Lanta and the Miss France pageantIt evokes the online harassment suffered by some graphic adventure adventurers, or the violent anti-Semitic tweets published against April Benayoum, candidate for the second in 2021.

“I know that the values of the adventure will be preserved”

“The truth is that ‘Star Academy’ was a very nice story, and I don’t see why it wouldn’t continue,” he concludes. “I’m super happy. It is produced by the man who was my deputy at the time, so I know that the values and what we liked in the adventure will be preserved.”

the new season of star academy, produced by Endemol France and DMLSTV, will run for six weeks, with a weekly bonus and a daily program six days a week, in which thirteen candidates will participate. Michaël Goldman, co-founder of the crowdfunding platform MyMajorCompany, will lead the academy, located in the Château de Dammarie-lès-Lys.
