Paris Fashion Week: Kanye West Walks in the Mud for Balenciaga

The American rapper opened the Spanish fashion house’s summer 2023 fashion show organized this Sunday in Villepinte as part of Paris Fashion Week.

Cap under a hood, leather pants and a black jacket with multiple pockets, dressed in large sneakers, rapper Kanye West opened this Sunday the Balenciaga summer 2023 fashion show organized in Villepinte, north of Paris, on the occasion of the Week of Fashion.

The ex-girlfriend of the artist and Balenciaga muse, Kim Kardashian, was in the front row of this dark and disturbing show, which took place on a construction site with a strong smell of mud.

Utility sets, baby carriers, dresses and stilettos

The male models were the protagonists: sometimes with black shorts and bombers, sometimes with a fluorescent green outfit made up of shorts and a hooded sweater between sportswear and indoor outfits. The white jeans were smeared with mud.

Some of them looked like baby carrier accessories or colorful and children’s bags reminiscent of stuffed animals. Others had large pink shopping bags or square shoulder bags with integrated sleeves, the highlight of this spring-summer 2023 collection.

The women, on the other hand, looked chic in this coed fashion show on the sidelines of Women’s Fashion Week. They were treated to stiletto heels to tread in the mud, which the men had to brave in clogs and sneakers.

Tight pink, white or black dresses, shiny and transparent outfits in chromatic dialogue with mud, silver or train dresses: they seemed ready to leave this anguished universe and go to a party.

More press releases from their fashion shows

After recently announcing that he would be dropping his Gvasalia name in the fashion world, where he now goes only by his first name, Balenciaga’s Georgian stylist, Demna said on Sunday that he would no longer explain his collections.

As a “visual art,” fashion “needs no story to be sold,” Demna emphasized in the show’s note of intent, appearing to join the many designers who don’t come along for the show without a press release.

“I hate frames and labels,” continues who, however, likes to show off the Balenciaga logo on his creations.

In March, the previous ready-to-wear show for Demna, who as a child had fled Georgia in the midst of war with Russia, had been a vibrant tribute to Ukraine living through the early days of the Russian invasion.
