Spoilers ahead for episode 3 of the resident Season 6, titled “One Bullet”.
the resident Chastain’s doctors juggled two high-risk cases in “One Bullet,” with the injuries of an unnamed gunshot victim requiring a disproportionate amount of the hospital’s dwindling supplies as padmaThe planned Caesarean section was delayed until her life (and that of her twins) was in danger. In the background, however, doctors and nurses had to pass drug tests, which showed the first big cracks. Corrado Yes giftthe relationship after he made his choice .
Cade quickly connected the dots when he learned that the hospital required its employees to undergo drug tests for the first time in three years, shortly after telling Conrad that his father had a history of substance abuse. While Conrad was understanding last week, he was also adamant that the chance to ian (played by new regular series Andrea McCarthy ) operating under the influence was something that could not happen to Chastain.
When she confronted him in “One Bullet”, she immediately confirmed her suspicions that she had informed him. crew drug testing would be a good idea. Even though he had told her that she hadn’t specifically said that she suspected her father would test positive, Cade clearly saw it as a violation of her trust in her. After all, she had talked about her father about her turning to prescription pills after she and Conrad had spent a night together, not as a colleague in the hospital corridors.
Of course, his father eventually tested positive and proved Conrad right in giving his suggestion to Kit, even though Ian offered a reasonable explanation for the results. (Viewers know he must have deliberately contaminated his sample with another type of drug to make it look like a false positive, but Kit has been duped and Cade can only be suspicious.)
While Cade wanted to be alone in the end, he took some comfort in a hug with Conrad after he asked if they would be “okay”. She also turned down her offer to go home with him, saying she needed alone time to “think about things”. There is always the promise of tomorrow, but they seemed more solid in healing a gunshot wound than in saying goodnight.
I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if Ian had found a way to pass the test and get negative results, instead of results he could have explained. If there had been no evidence that something was at least suspicious, I can imagine it could have been a turning point for their relationship.
And that makes me wonder if Conrad’s drive to put the greater good above what she trusts in him could be the bane of their relationship. Cade is a complicated character and carries a lot of baggage with her relationship with her father, but as Conrad pointed out, she won’t just give Ian the benefit of the doubt if she puts the children’s lives at risk in surgery. Objectively, Conrad was not wrong to warn Kit, but Cade had every right to feel betrayed. It’s not a good status quo for a relatively new relationship.
Nor is it the end of the world for an adult relationship between two people who love each other deeply and the resident not focused on billyfeelings of him to play with the love triangle, which he should become more complicated . I guess their relationship is safe for now, but it was the first sign of unrest for a romance that seemed to be solid for the first two episodes of the season (which you can find streaming with a Hulu subscription ). Whether this is a fatal flaw and a crack in the foundation remains to be seen.
See what happens next with the new episodes of the resident Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox on the TV program 2022 . “One Bullet” seemed to end Padma’s pregnancy story, but the show can probably get a lot out of the twins. It should also be interesting to see if the medical supply shortage recurs throughout Season 6, as it is a problem that Chicago Mediterranean even heads on NBC.
