After the latest controversy over alleged SNL sketch stolen, YouTube creator Joel Haver reacted to allegations

As part of the fun first week of fall TV, Saturday night live returned to fans for season 48 with a premiere that lacked some familiar faces, the two previously announced their departures just like him currently employed elsewhere Cecily Strong . Although the guest host is Top Gun: Maverick Star Miles Teller and musical host Kendrick Lamar entertained fans, with the episode sparking a series of less-than-ideal titles based on claims that the Scene from “Charmin Bears” copied directly the viral video “Toilet Paper Bears” created by online director Joel Haver. Now, the fan favorite content creator has offered his answer.

those who watched SNLThe opening of the 48th season saw stars Kenan Thompson and others dressed in large, vibrant blue bear costumes, for a skit focusing on Teller’s bear that aims to make his dance dreams come true instead of following the steps to clean the seating provided by the family business. After those familiar with Joel Haver’s work took to social media to voice their complaints, Haver shared a reaction video on Youtube and offered a much nicer approach than many others online, saying:

When it comes to these theft allegations, I’m always mistaken on the coincidence side. I think parallel thinking happens most of the time. So I waited to see the sketch for myself, which was posted later that night. I saw it. . . . It was quite alarming. I was like, ‘Wow.’ Usually when these things happen, I can see, “Oh, it’s the same concept, but they took it to a different place.” Or it’s similar, but you could give them some leeway. But this was a little strange. I was like, ‘Wow, that’s a lot like that.’

Part of Haver’s perspective comes down to the fact that he’s a smart guy and understands the numbers game when it comes to producing comedy videos to enjoy online. With thousands and thousands of people on YouTube, TikTok and beyond creating more videos per week (or per day) these days, the law of averages dictates that not all videos will be the most unique and original. . Of course, there is a line between random similarities and puzzling similarities.

Joel Haver also comes to terms with the idea that he is currently at a point in his videographer career where an incident like this, regardless of the merits of the allegations, doesn’t bother him directly as it did before. . . I used to have so many followers. He says he can understand why others who are still on the rise would be angrier at the Emmy winning NBC series he copied his work.

Since we may never have hard evidence or anything about the “Charmin Bears” skit, it’s probably easier to let the past go by, even if SNL he’s been accused of stealing sketches many times over the years, but not always with this kind of specificity. Haver seems to let it go for now, as he takes comfort in the fact that he (and many others) think his sketch “Toilet Paper Bears” was the better of the two. He continued:

It is inevitable that you overlap. It is inevitable that you will do something that has already been done. So when it comes to Charmin Bears, there should be a lot of coincidences for it to really be a coincidence, but I don’t think it’s harmful. Either it was an unconscious loan from someone in the editorial team who saw my video, or it was a big coincidence. My video has been enjoyed by many people. It has garnered over a million views. I am happy with this. I think the video turned out great. I enjoy my delivery much more. I love how natural, weird and dry compared to the SNL episode, meaning they dance and it’s bigger and louder than life.
