Our Eric Eisenberg gives the reboot 4 out of 5 stars, saying director David Bruckner made a film that is deeply rooted in the franchise, but still has a new story to tell.
David Bruckner has created a new chapter that follows the rules of the canon and combines them with an exciting and well-structured story that allows the film to give fans what they seek and expect from it.
Sarah Musnicky of nightmare spells is impressed with the updates to Clive Barker’s original concept. While the reboot features less sex, its exploration of addiction is intriguing and it works. Odessa A’zion makes the role of Riley recognizable and this reviewer would like to be able to see the film on the big screen:
Beautiful. Visceral. Hard. Cruel. Many words can be used to describe this new version of HELLRAISER (2022). His understanding of addiction in its various forms is well done and the team is not afraid to explore the multiple complexities and ugliness that can come with recovery. There may have been a slight push to add more blood, more sex, the things that originally drew viewers into the realm of the Hellraiser franchise. But, as it stands now, the balance between meanness and stability-seeking in HELLRAISER (2022) matches the tone of what is provided here.
Katie alive Polygon to say that director David Bruckner so well if he toma libertades with el material de origen, remains gall in the spirit of the history of OG, y en una franquicia donde las múltiples secuelas han sido impredecibles, el critic cree que esta película se locica seeks de la top :
Hellraiser 2022 easily crosses the admittedly low threshold of being one of Hellraiser ‘s best films. It’s the best since Hellbound: Hellraiser II and may even be the second best in the series after this movie. It has some jaw-dropping and grotesque visuals, which makes it really a shame that this movie won’t be out in theaters. And he realizes what many fans (including this one) wanted for the show, which is to get him out of the creative purgatory he had been stuck in for a few decades. The only thing to worry about at this point are the places where Barker’s perverted side has been honed for a more genre-averse era and his cryptic narrative abandoned in favor of a more readable, but less compelling one. . Beyond that, the suffering is exquisite.
donated opaque IGN agrees with the previous assessment that the retelling treats Clive Barker’s vision with reverence, awarding the movie “Excellent” 8 out of 10. This reviewer praises the new Pinhead, calling it “one of the best”. hell film from the original “:
Jamie Clayton is the pinhead a new generation deserves, awash with Bruckner’s cooler cinematography hiding redder lights to signal that humanity is where the real monsters reside. Hellraiser may be relatively less grotesque, but a heady calibration of the “pain or pleasure” narrative leads Hellraiser 2022 to howl for joy in an invigorated, franchise-ready environment. It has clever timing to save blood for maximum impact and enhance the psychological nervousness inherent in the cenobitic narrative, never getting lost in more cloying intentions just for masochistic midnight distractions.
dry juice IndieWire he ranks the movie as B and says that while David Bruckner’s movie is hilarious, it has been stripped of all the “evil perversion” that attracted many fans of the franchise in the first place. According to the review:
Hellraiser is a revival of the 2022 franchise, free from all the sexy subversion that brought it here in the first place. It’s perfectly fun, using Barker’s imaginative tropes to tell a solidly gory nightmare, but it’s a pale vanilla shade of the original. Cleverly directed by David Bruckner and written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, Hellraiser appears to come from a squad of straight horror guys who know what they’re doing, but completely miss the mark. Either that or they were blocked by Hulu (aka Disney) from everything.
Sounds like a movie you need to be part of your Halloween horror vision? If so, you don’t have to wait long. hell debuts on Hulu on Friday 7 October.
