Many celebrities are moved this Saturday by the powerful earthquake that left hundreds dead overnight in Morocco. Among them, several personalities of Moroccan origin, such as Élie Semoun, who spoke in the morning on BFMTV.
“Although I was not born there, my heart bleeds and I can only be supportive,” he said.
“Marrakech is a very endearing city, like the Moroccans,” continues the comedian, who presents himself as “a regular” in the capital, in particular for his repeated participation in the Marrakech of laughterannual humor festival created by Jamel Debbouze.

This Moroccan demonstration also hosted Gad Elmaleh, born in Casablanca in 1971, on several occasions. The comedian reacted this Saturday morning to the disaster through a publication on Instagram:
“Dismayed by the tragedy that struck Morocco last night,” he wrote on the social network, captioning a photo of the Moroccan flag.
“Thoughts and support to all the victims and their families,” continues the 52-year-old actor. The comedian Amelle Chahbi, revealed by the Jamel Comedy Club, published a Moroccan flag in a report on the same network.
“You are not alone in this terrible experience”
The singer Gims, born in the Congo in 1986, seriously expressed his solidarity by publishing a Moroccan flag on his social networks, accompanied by ellipses in the caption.
Rapper Médine posted a tweet expressing his solidarity: “You are not alone in this terrible experience, Morocco. We are with you.”
Several rappers posted similar tributes on social media. It is worth highlighting La Fouine and Mister You, both of Moroccan origin, who published Moroccan flags in their respective Instagram stories.
Almost a thousand dead, according to a provisional report
At least 820 people died in this powerful earthquake, according to a provisional official report. The disaster caused enormous damage and spread panic in Marrakech and several other cities. In addition to the capital, the shock was felt in Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir and Essaouira.
The National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST) based in Rabat indicated that the earthquake had a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale and that its epicenter was located in the province of Al-Haouz, southwest of Marrakech.
