Negotiations between the striking screenwriters, supported by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the studios, grouped under the auspices of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), will resume a month after having been interrupted.
The negotiations will take place next week on a date not yet determined, as revealed by an AMPTP spokesperson to the specialized site Indiewire: “On Wednesday, September 13, the WGA contacted the AMPTP to relaunch the negotiations.”
“We have agreed and are working to organize a meeting next week,” the spokesperson added. “The AMPTP is eager to reach a fair agreement and work with the WGA to end the strike.”
Precariousness of work
On strike since May 2, the scriptwriters denounce their precariousness and demand an increase in their salaries, minimum guarantees to enjoy stable employment and a greater participation in the benefits generated by the streaming boom.
The writers also call for safeguards to be put in place against advances in artificial intelligence that could ultimately endanger the profession. The actors have been joining the writers since July 14.
The Hollywood calendar was completely turned upside down by this social movement. The Emmy Awards, the most prestigious awards on American television, were recently postponed from September to January for the same reason.
