“A moment of astonishment”: spectators recount Pierre Arditi’s discomfort on stage

The 78-year-old actor was rushed to the hospital after feeling unwell on stage. His life prognosis is not in danger.

“From collective fun we move to sadness.” Pierre Arditi was admitted to the hospital as an absolute emergency, with suspected stroke, this Wednesday night. The 78-year-old actor was on stage at the Edouard VII theater in Paris, in the middle of a performance of “Rabbit,” when he felt unwell.

“The show had just started and from the beginning we felt that Pierre Arditi was tired. He wasn’t putting as much emphasis as usual,” testifies Claire, a BFMTV viewer this Wednesday night.

“After 20 minutes, in a scene in which he was looking for a phone number on a cell phone, it began to repeat itself several times, as if it had a technical problem. At first we thought it was part of the play and quickly, Muriel Robin approached and took him by the arm,” Claire continues.

“The frozen face of Muriel Robin”

Then the curtain fell and Claire saw the feet of a third person arriving on stage. Remember Muriel Robin’s “frozen face looking at the audience a little scared.”

In the room, it took a while for the spectators to understand that this interruption was not part of the play. Especially because “at the beginning of the evening there had already been a joke,” explains Éric, another BFMTV viewer.

“It was a moment of astonishment but previously we believed that it was in the script of the play because it lent itself to it, the fact that there could be an interruption,” he adds.

“A kind of confusion”

Claire then says that “there was a bit of confusion as someone in the room said ‘the show is cancelled’ and we thought that echoed the play. Finally, they said it two, three times. It took a long time for people to get up and Then I began to understand.”

Éric, for his part, says “a thought for Pierre Arditi”, whom he wishes “a speedy recovery”. The actor was treated as an absolute emergency at the Lariboisière hospital in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, as BFMTV learned from a police source. His life prognosis is not in danger.

Muriel Robin is currently at his bedside, as is Évelyne Bouix, his partner, and Samuel Benchetrit, author and director of “Lapin”.
