If we know Tom Cruise’s taste for stunts, some images are impressive. Like that of the actor on top of a small World War II biplane in mid-flight suspended over hundreds of meters of vacuum, casually leaning on one of the plane’s wings, addressing the camera with the same ease as if he were having a coffee in the terrace.
“Hello everyone. I wish I was here with you. Sorry about the noise,” the actor yells over the roar of the plane’s engine and the whistling of the wind. “As you can see, we are filming the last episode as of Mission Impossible“, he laughs.
Director Christopher McQuarrie then appears on the field at the controls of another plane. “Sorry to interrupt you, but we really have to shoot!” It was then that the plane in which the 60-year-old actor was riding made a vertiginous dive over the South African mountains.
According to Erik Davis, an American film journalist, this is the video released exclusively last April during CinemaCon in Las Vegas, just before the film’s world premiere. Top Gun: Maverick. At the time, many media outlets had shared this stunning video, but the footage had never been made public. Christopher McQuarrie, the director, had only posted one photo.
